What is the content of the course of studies?

During the course, students acquire scientific expertise in
scientific work, in statistics, in test statistics and test theory and evidence-based practice and quality management. Furthermore, students gain an insight into social sciences and hear lectures on applied psychology, ethics, professional politics and scientific theories. Furthermore, students gain an insight into theory-guided therapeutic action and attend modules on prevention, therapy theories and models, interdisciplinary fields of action, clinical reasoning and inclusion in the therapeutic field of action. In addition, the speech therapy course focuses on knowledge in the treatment of reading and spelling disorders, speech therapy for multilingualism in language development and pronunciation disorders, neurogenic speech and language disorders and dysphagia II. Furthermore students gain knowledge about scientific-therapy aspects of the whole lifespan (child and adolescence, adulthood, old age).

Therapeutic aspects of speech therapy such as the current development in the field of childhood speech and language disorders, the current development in the field of voice disorders, current developments in the field of neurogenic speech and language disorders and health educational skills also form a part of the course content. Students also learn teaching and learning theories in education and training, planning and implementation of educational and information sessions and training courses and designing teaching and learning situations.

In practices and clinics, in healthcare facilities, in educational institutions, in professional schools and colleges, independently in one’s own practice or consulting firm.

Speech therapy at the Fresenius University leads to a professional qualification in treatment therapy of speech therapy and language, speech, voice and swallowing disorders. After completing your studies, you will be able to independently alleviate and cure communication and speech problems.

What are the entry requirements?
  • General higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulreife), advanced technical college certificate (Fachhochschulreife).
  • Successful interview and a state exam in a therapy profession.

What costs will I incur as part of my studies?
Tuition fees of € 318 per month, one-off registration fee/equivalence test of € 285 and a one-off examination fee of € 390.
