What is the content of the course of studies?

The Master’s degree programme in Health and Nursing Education serves to acquire the qualification for teaching and headship at schools in the health care sector. The qualification goals therefore include subject-specific and interdisciplinary aspects in the areas of scientific qualification, pedagogical professional qualification, but also personal development and the ability to engage in civil society. Within the framework of the Master’s degree programme in Health and Nursing Education, the professional competence required for the relevant teaching activity is developed in the competence fields of educational sciences, professional specialisation health/nursing as well as in the field of interdisciplinary competences.

The Master’s programme in Health and Nursing Education is aimed at the target group of Bachelor’s graduates who have completed relevant study programmes in the field of therapy, health and nursing sciences or pedagogy. Both Bachelor graduates who do not yet have relevant teaching experience and Bachelor graduates who are already engaged in teaching and/or management activities at schools in the health care sector are addressed.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of health, therapy, nursing sciences or nursing pedagogy.
  • Entitlement to study in Master’s degree programmes in accordance with § 39 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG)
  • Proof of education in the case of foreign degrees
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form and two recent passport photos (name on reverse),
  • Copy of identity card (front and back), for foreign students identity card,
  • If applicable, proof of previous employment,
  • Proof of first degree, course book or degree certificate, if the applicant has already studied at other universities.

In what fields/subject areas can I work?

The primary occupational field of graduates of the Master’s degree programme in Health and Nursing Pedagogy are both the so-called schools of health care or schools for health professions as well as relevant vocational school centres. With the Master’s degree in Health and Nursing Pedagogy, you qualify for jobs in

  • as a teacher for specialised theoretical instruction at state-approved/recognised vocational schools for health professions,
  • in personnel and organisational development in health care companies,
  • in associations, organisations, foundations, health insurance companies and other health and social care institutions,
  • in authorities, ministries and political stakeholders in the health sector
  • in health-related media institutions, publishing houses and media agencies,
  • in the management of multi-professional teams in health and social institutions.

In addition, there is also the possibility to do a doctorate after the Master’s degree.

What costs will I incur as part of my studies?

Tuition fee 495 euros per month (part-time), plus 100 euros one-off enrolment fee.
