What is the content of the course of studies?

The course covers the fundamentals in music therapy, group music therapy, therapeutic improvisation, occupational field research, the theory and practice of music therapy, the theory of psychoanalysis, developmental psychology, psychopathology, music and movement, percussion and therapeutic work with the voice.

Hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, kindergartens, schools, facilities for disabled people, hospices, free practices.

In what fields/subject areas can I work?

Graduates find employment in psychotherapy, rehabilitation, self-awareness, and in the fields of prevention, dementia and palliative care.

What are the entry requirements?

  • The programme is aimed at interested persons who have obtained at least a Bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) in the fields of music, psychology, medicine, education or social sciences.
  • Special music therapy interests. In addition to the block seminars at the Institute, internships of at least 210 hours, teaching music therapy (75 hours) and supervision (50 hours) must be completed.
    Practical and research references of the study programme are established, among other things, through the cooperation with the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), which acts as a teaching hospital for the institute.

What costs will I incur as part of my studies?

Normal semester fee currently € 334.40 (summer term 2022).
