What is the content of the course of studies?

The Bachelor’s degree programme in Medical Education qualifies students to work as practice teachers at vocational schools in the healthcare sector and as practice instructors in the training of healthcare professions. In terms of comprehensive teacher training in accordance with the standards of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the Bachelor’s degree programme represents the first study phase, which is to be followed up with the Master’s degree programme in Medical Education (M. Ed.).

  • in the management of interprofessional teams in health and social institutions

What are the entry requirements?

  • General higher education entrance qualification or
  • Subject-related higher education entrance qualification or
  • Advanced technical college entrance qualification according to § 37 HmbHG or
  • Special access for professionals according to § 38 HmbHG via entrance examination (according to the entrance examination regulations)
  • The following professional qualifications are authorised
    • Nursing professions: Geriatric nursing, health and nursing care, paediatric nursing, maternity nurses / midwives
    • Doctors of all specialities
    • Medical technical assistant professions: MTAF, MTRA, MTLA, MTAO / OTA, ATA, orthoptist, PTA
    • Therapeutic assistant professions: occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech therapist, motor therapist, masseur
    • Other non-medical healthcare professions: Medical and dental assistants, dental technicians, pharmaceutical clerks, paramedics, emergency paramedics, podiatrists, dieticians
    • Social professions: Home and family carer, curative education nurse, educator / youth and home educator, remedial teacher
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form and two recent passport photos (name on reverse),
  • Copy of identity card (front and back), for foreign students identity card,
  • If applicable, proof of previous employment,
  • Proof of first degree, course book or degree certificate, if the applicant has already studied at other universities.

    What costs will I incur as part of my studies?

    Tuition fee 450 euros per month, plus 100 euros one-off enrolment fee.
